I wanted to get another flight in today, but the winds were a little too blustery.  Thankfully they settled down a bit so I went for a flight.

I am a bit worried by the motor's behaviour, but i suspect it is more the esc than the motor.  When I spool up then flick to idle1 the motor is fine.  If I do a pitch pump, or give a quick burst of cyclic the head speeds up (as per the throttle v-curve), but then it wont slow down unless you just about spool down.  I might try re-programming the esc...

It was an interesting flight with the Mini-titan.  About a minute into the flight the heli lost power like the low voltage cut out had kicked in.  I spooled down, then back up and all was fine.

The tail is holding well, a lot better than the JR410 ever did and the piro speed is ok.  I will have to reduce the expo on the cyclic as I found I was having to put a lot of stick input in to correct and move around. :)

Battery #4 took 1527 ma for a 7 minute flight and 82:34 minutes to charge

I managed 3 great flights with the trex600n today.  They were 7, 8 and 6 minutes each.

I had trouble with the heli not wanting to stay running.  I suspected that the glow plug might be the issue as I couldn't remember when I last changed it.  After replacing the plug, the heli started easily and didn't die when the glow igniter turned off, so definately plug replacement time.  Upon inspection of the old plug, the first 3 coils were not glowing.

The first fligt I spooled up took off to about a 2metre high hover and the heli was just sitting there so I took my hands off the sticks.  Other than the breeze blowing the heli to the left slightly and having to correct it, I could have hovered for a lot longer with no hands LOL.  It was only about a 15second hands off hover, but its a nice feeling as to me it means that the heli is pretty well trimmed. :)

Another test flight out in the front yard..

I leaned off the mixture screw a couple of clicks. Then tigthened up the mixture control lever.

It was a lot better, the temp did manage to get over 80c (max 86c)  I was also able to see the mixture servo start to richen up the mixture and as soon as it started to do that the engine started to bog down again.

Unfortunately the winds started to get too blustery so i landed and shut it all down.

Another 6 minute flight.

Not very nice weather again for flying, but i still managed 2 flights (6 and 3 minutes)

The heli with the mixture control installed is running very rich, even after leaning off the needle a couple of clicks it was better, but still very rich with the mixture servo staying in the full lean position.

I just did basic hovering with more right side in (so i could see the mixture servo)  Also did some piros.

The second flight again much the same, but cut short by the rain.   It wasn't...

I bought some threaded rod and ball ends today so i could finish the setup of the mixture control.  Once I had done this, I put some fuel in the tank and headed outside for a quick test flight.

I didn't have the mxture control rod installed as I wanted to make sure the servo was going in the right direction first (which it was). After a total of 3 minutes of hovering (with no tail input... Love the spartan hehe) the temp reported was only 86c. Not even up to the 90c that i had set for normal...

Thought I would get the mini titan out and have another flight as the winds had dropped and the rain was holding off too :)

The tail holds really nicely.  The stops from a piro are soft but virtually no bounce.  Not as hard a stop as the old JR410 used to give.

The head speed was a bit finicky.  After doing pitch pumps the head speed would speed up when giving it full collective but not slow down again.  Hopefully the speedy isn't stuffed.

Well what a yuck day to go flying... Cold and windy.  Thankfully it wasn't wet.

I managed two flights with the Trex (one tank's worth).  I was so impressed by the Spartan gyro.  It's authority over the tail was exceptional.  Even with the 15 knot cross winds the tail was rock solid.  I "almost" enjoyed flying in the strong winds LOL

My Trex600n has joined the "Spartan" club.  I have fitted a Spartan DS760 gyro to it to replace the Futaba GY401 that is now doing service on my Mini Titan.

This gyro is so easy to setup.  It is almost plug and play.  Plug in, set servo type, turn off, plug in tail servo, turn back on and then set servo direction and individual left and right servo endpoints, turn off.  Setup the Gain on the TX and fire everything up :)

This was a test flight after the installation of the Futaba GY401 gyro from my Trex600n into the Mini-Titan.

So far it is a lot better than the JR410 was.  I still have some adjustment to do, but it is a bit hard to sort it out in the confines of the car port.

All i basically did was remove all trim and sub-trim from the rudder channel and then setup the tail slider central in it's range.  I adjusted the limit pot on the gyro and had to move the ball on the servo in one more hole to...
