My General thoughts and musings
By Nigel on Monday, 19 November 2007 2:45 PM
Well, I finally got her up in the air again.  I have spent the better half of 2 batteries worth of time getting everything re-setup.  I made a heap of changes to my setup in the transmitter, only to have them lost when i forgot to turn it off and the battery went flat (was about a day later when i noticed)

I am still having some tail hold issues... mainly the gyro not working properly when I switch it into HH mode... it keeps trying to pul the arm forwards.  I know the JR GY410T gyros suffer...

Well I finally found out what was causing the "Popping" problem...  It was the elevator servo.  The last 1/4 - 1/2 of its travel is slow as can be, taking a couple of seconds to catch up wih the alieron servos.  I have replaced the servo with the S75 servo from the tail, and have installed one of the (huge in comparison) servos that came with my DX7.

I finally managed to get a flight in last night.  I spent most of the flight adjusting the gyro to suit the new servo, but no more popping or...

Thought i had better do an update, as i haven't done one for a while, so here goes...

I have started to add the bling to my MT.  Unfortunately I am still waiting for the Metal head block (PV0801), but as the wobble in the original plastic headblock was getting worse, i thought i would bite the blade and put in the blingy bits that i have bought so far.

These are:

Metal Mixing Lever (PV0805) Metal Flybar control arms (PV0806) Metal Flybar Control Levers (PV0807) Metal Washout...

Well this is getting really frustrating.  I am having a lot of problems with it at the moment, and im not sure if it is a faulty servo, or something to do with the programming of the radio or even a sticky spot on the swashplate, but whenever i give some cyclic to backup the heli, it will "jump" up about a foot or so, then drop.  Nothing had changed between flights, then ll of a sudden it started popping.  It caused the landing skids to break (see previous entry).

I have looked at everything,...

I have been running Radio Controlled cars for about 5 years now.

It all started when I purchased a Traxxas Nitro Rustler.  This has served me very well.  It had the old TRX15 Pro motor (which i later ported with my trusty rotary tool) and was providing ample power.  Enough to be able to lift the front wheels under aceleration.  I made some custom parts for my little rustler, mainly front and rear shock towers.  I got sick of replacing them, so for less than the price of one shock tower, i...

mmm, I have been very naughty...  I haven't flown my MT in quite a while.

I am still waiting for the head block to come into Modelflight.  I think it has been 3 or 4 months since I ordered that part.  Might start looking to see if I can get it elsewhere.  I am also thinking of getting the alloy mixing arms.  I don't want to get rid of too much of the plastic parts, as i would rather have the cheaper plastic break in the event of a crash than the more expensive alloy parts.

I did manage...

I decided to dye black some of the white plastic parts of my Mini Titan.

Was a very interesting 41st and 42nd flight today...

I hadn't changed anything on the heli or my transmitter, yet i was having a really hard time controlling the heli once in the air.  She was drifting all over the place, and would start sliding forwards.  when i would pull back on the stick slightly she would jump up about 1/2 to 1 metre depending on how much throttle i had wound in.  Even the head speed was all over the place.  But the head speed was varying from takeoff to takeoff.  If i landed and brought the blades to a complete stop, then took off again the head speed would be different.  Even when i switched batteries, it was still behaing the same.

Well a few more successful flights over the weekend - Four flights in total

Most of the flights i practised just left and right side in hovering, and getting used to the controls when left or right side in.  At this stage, i am able to hover right side in a lot more confidently and easily than left side in.

The last half of flight 39 and most of flight 40 I spent in forward flight and reversing back, and getting used to looking up at the heli with some tree-top hovering.

mmm Been a few weeks since my last flight   Unfortunately I have been busy with work or home life.

Anyways... You have got to love these lovely winter days... the warmth of the winter sun, just a hint of a breeze, and the sky speckled with clouds... mmm so warming... also wonderful weather for flying
