I finished getting the blades tracking correctly today.  took 1 turn of the long link to get it spot on.  There is only 2 discs now... one for the main blades and one for the paddles.

I also made up a carbon fibre tail linkage out of a piece of 3mm carbon rod and a couple of small linkage rods glued into the ends.  It is lighter than the original and had allowed me to get rid of those little rod supports.

Well, my heli is back in the air...  Well was...  Not another crash but a stripped tail drive gear (the large one that sits above the main drive gear)

Flight 74 i spent trying to re-trim the heli and adjust blade tracking.  Not sure how long i flew, but given the amperage put back into the battery (#4) i guesstimate about 6-7minutes, but probably closer to 6.  I was unable to get the tracking close.  This was due to the pitch not being set correctly.  One blade was out by 2.5deg, the other...

I went down to the local Heli club again.  I thoroughly enjoy going there, drooling over all the other nice helis, also as i had my eldest lad with me.

the first 2 flights went really well, with me flying virtually the whole flight with the headspeed set to 100%, and was very comfortable with it at this speed.  I spend some time trimming the heli, trying to get rid of the tail drift, and also get the tracking right (what a waste of time this turned out to be LOL).  I only got 5 minutes from battery #1, but this was used to do some bench testing of pitch and tail setup, and 6 1/2 minutes for battery #2.

Another 2 flights today.

I went down to have a fly with the guys from SA R/C Helicopter Club (for their website click HERE), who fly at one of the ovals by Adelaide High School on west terrace.

Weather was beautiful.  Slight westerly breeze, bit of cloud cover, temp probably high teens/low 20's.

Just the same old stuff... basic hovering.  Although most of the time the heli was about 3-4 metres off the ground and about 20metres in front of me.

Well another day another flight...

Just the usual, practicing left and right side in hovering.  I also did some 3-4 metre high hovering, just to try and get used to the perspective of looking up at the heli.

Only managed 7 1/2 minutes flight time before the "hunting" started.  The heli was about 2 metres off the ground when it started too

I got another battery this week.  A Dualsky 2200Mah 11.1V LiPo rated at 25C, so this flight is the first flight with the new battery.

The difference was very noticible.  I managed 8 1/2 minutes of flight time in a moderate wind.  I had to do some adjustment as the tracking was off.  It took a bit of adjustment to get it close, but it is still not spot on.  at 75% throttle it is very close, but when i go to 90% it was out quite a lot.

Yes you read it right...  4 flights.  Actually over 2 evenings, but definately been good practice.

Each flight I was getting about 8 minutes of hovering.  Just lots of practice with left and right side in.  I am more comfortable with right side in, but left side in is getting better.

Probably about half the flight time was spent on my "ST-1" setting which is running 90% on the throttle curve, where as normal mode is 75%.  There are some minor pitch curve differences, but otherwise they...

Finally got a spare 15minutes to get another flight in.  It was about 5:30pm, so just getting dark, but light enough to still be able to see the heli.  Perfect conditions... Not a breath of wind

I have just had the kids for the weekend and was able to get the parts for my heli (main shafts and tail drive gearset - metal).

The new parts went in with ease, and she was all back together and ready to be test flown   The hardest part was getting the collar 70mm from the end (as per the instructions.  I realised afterwards that i should have used the bottom collar and aligned...

I decided to do a flight of nose, left and right side-in hovering.  While getting a feel for the heli, i notided that the tracking was out, so probably ended up spending a couple of minutes sorting out the tracking.  Once i got this right, i proceeded with the hover practice.  The left and right side in's were going well, and for a while even the nose in hovering went well.  Although I ended up "bouncing" the heli off the ground a couple of times when nose in.  Didn't think much of it at the time,...
