My General thoughts and musings
By Nigel on Monday, 28 September 2009 7:07 PM

Was a nice afternoon for flying, I only had time for one flight though.

I flew in the driveway which was  tight considering the bins were out for the night.

I did some fast and slow piros and some small figure 8's

Battery #5 took 1548 ma to charge in 78:48 minutes for a 7 minute flight

Well this was the first flights with the new servos (Ino-Labs D760MG) and KDE bearing block upgrade.  I would have liked calmer conditions, so I could trim the heli, but it seemed pretty right.  A calm day will tell.

It was nice to have my Dad there to watch me fly too.

I did have to feed in quite a bit of forward cyclic, but im not sure if this was due to the wind or required trimming.

Once I was happy with it all, I did some piros (fast and slow), nose, left and right side in hovering and some cicuits.

I purchased some new faster servos for the Trex600n (Ino-Labs HG-D760MG), as well as the KDE Direct - Thrusted main shaft bearing block upgrade.  Parts were purchased from RC-Bits.  I was extremely impressed with the speed of delivery.  I ordered them on Tuesday night, and they arrived today, so well done RC-Bits.

All parts went in easily.  I did have to move the rx back about 2cm as the rear elevator servo wire barely reached.  The Ino-Lab servo leads are about 5cm shorter than the Hitecs.  I tried doing some setup to test everything, but the noise was too much for me to bear with my migraine, so will have to do the setup tomorrow night.

Wasn't the greatest conditions for flying. The winds weren't too bad, but did swing round from the north to the east.

I managed 2 flights, 11 and 9 minutes each.  Nothing new with todays flights, just some hovering and then some circuits.

I guess the only other things was some forced autos.  When switching from idle-up to normal flight modes, the engine would reduce revs (as per the governor setting) then after about 5 cedonds, it would just stop.  It wasn't like it was suddenly running...

It wasn't the best of mornings for flying, but it wasn't raining (yet).  Other than being a tad chilli, it wasn't too bad.

I only managed one flight before the rain arrived, but it was extremely enjoyable.

I did the usual bit of hovering some left and right side in as well as nose in, then proceeded to the "fun" part (fun for me anyway)  Some circuits!!  Slow and easy, but my turns are getting better.  Unfortunately, I discovered another weak area that I have...  I am not very good at turning from left side in to nose in (clock wise direction)  Extremely shakey in fact.  So based on this, I decided to do some slow piros in both directions.

Another fine late afternoon to have a fly...

I replaced the feathering shaft and dampers last night, so was hoping it would fix the poor blade tracking.  Before removing the blade grips, I spun the feathering shaft in the head, and the grips were definately moving indicating a bent feathering shaft.

Well... The tracking is better than it has been for quite a few flights.  I still need to sort out the settings as the heli is still very twitchy.

Again, similar to the previous flight. ...

It was great weather outside, so just had to have a flight.

Not much to report.  its a bit hard to do any realy flying in the front or back yards, so just hovered in left, right and tail in.  I need to build up my confidence (and improve the handling of the heli) before do any nose in in a small area.

Tracking still terrible.

Well it started off a nice day, then someone brought the wind with them. LOL

Took lots of photos (will be put up here later)

The first flight was in slight breeze.  A bit of moving the heli around with small circuits, some piros and left/right side in hovers.

Second flight was in windier conditions.  The heli was really being buffeted around.  Forward flight into the wind would result in the heli going up and down.  Turning to go with the wind and the heli would fall with lots...

Needed to have a flight to TRY and take my mind off other things.  Didn't work though :(

Put in two flights.  The first flight just a bit of moving the heli around, until the battery started to loose power (and only after 4 minutes too!!)

Second flight was ajust over 7 minutes and again I just moved the heli around, doing terrible figure 8's.

I will be checking the links tonight as it seems very twitchy around centre stick and I am unable to get the blades to track.

The conditions weren't too bad for flying.  The wind was a bit too strong and gusty for me to comfortably fly the Mini-Titan.

I squeezed in 2 flights with the Trex - 78 1/2 and 12 1/2 minutes a piece.  The second flight I didn't even fill the tank all the way to the top.  It would have been 1.5-2cm from the top and I still managed to get over 12 minutes from the flight, and landed with fuel still left in the header tank.

The first flight was still a lot of hovering to get used to the...
